The City of Toronto, Region of Peel and Ottawa are reverting to an amended Stage 2, which sees all indoor dining close for the next 28 days. This comes as Ontario sees the highest daily increase of new COVID-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic -- a total of 939 on Friday.
The official announcement comes from Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams, live at 1 p.m. from Queen's Park and is scheduled to be followed up by an announcement from Premier Doug Ford at 2:30 p.m. today, October 9.
The closure of indoor dining at both bars and restaurants is slated to commence this Saturday as of 12:01 a.m. Gyms, casinos and movie theatres will also be forced to close for the next 28 days. This follows hesitancy from Premier Doug Ford, who has voiced his concerns over closing indoor dining and how the repercussions will be detrimental for those in the hospitality industry.
