A professional chef has just opened his very own ice cream shop in Toronto’s Harbourfront neighbourhood.
Ice Creamonology is the brainchild of Onur Yilmaz, who holds a bachelor’s degree in gastronomy and culinary arts. Yilmaz had been working at hotel kitchens and fine-dining restaurants for over a decade, before taking a step back to follow his dreams of opening an ice cream store.
The decision comes as the restaurant industry takes a huge hit due to COVID-19, which has allowed him to use the time to take on a new venture. It took three years for Yilmaz to bring his concept to life, where he’d serve handcrafted premium ice cream to the rest of the city.
From the waffle cones to the ice cream, everything is made by hand using real and quality ingredients, without the use of food colouring.
They prefer to let the ingredients speak for themselves, which shows in flavours like mint chocolate chip made with actual mint leaves, Turkish coffee that’s infused with real Turkish coffee, pistachio containing 100 per cent real pistachio puree and dark chocolate made using West African cocoa beans. Flavours are produced in small batches throughout the day which are also available in pints for takeout and delivery through Uber Eats.
Ice Creamonology is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. at 390 Queens Quay West.
