Baking at home has become a common theme over the past year, with many folks discovering the joy in expressing creativity through homemade food and a number of them even turning these hobbies into full-fledged businesses. On top of that, Torontonians who aren't as inclined in the kitchen are seeking out delicious and comforting foods to make their time at home a little more special. Anthology of Sweets, one of our region's newest home-based bakeries, takes the business of serving up treats even further by providing tasty, high-quality baked goods while actively promoting food freedom and enjoyment.
Owner Jasmine Newman, who is based out of Mississauga and delivers to a few regions across the GTA, launched Anthology of Sweets on a whim to combine her passions for baking and bringing people a taste of the simple pleasures in life. After watching a Food Network show one night, Jasmine decided nothing was holding her back from taking a chance on a business of her own, and Anthology of Sweets came to fruition that evening.
Owner of Anthology of Sweets, Jasmine Newman.
What makes Jasmine's bakery unique is that her goal goes far beyond just the sweets. She is an avid proponent of breaking through the noise of diet culture and inspiring people to live a life free of food restrictions or fears. Just before her launch at the start of 2021, she wrote a post on her Instagram encouraging folks to cherish all of the experiences life has to offer (especially after a year of tough times) and reminding them of this important message: "If you're tempted or even pressured to make a New Years resolution for 2021, don't get sucked into the hype of a new diet or "wellness" regime. Take a moment and reflect on what truly brings you joy and aim to bring more of that into your life." Clearly, this message is near and dear to Jasmine's heart and is one that she hopes to spread via her new business.
Anthology of Sweets is currently a one-woman show. Jasmine is doing the recipe development, baking, order management, payments, social media and all other tasks (of which there are no doubt many) that pop up for a small startup business. Nevertheless, she manages to bake up incredible treats that her customers have been raving about, like classic chocolate chip cookies that are freshly baked and boast that coveted chewy texture. Her other options include chocolate-dipped toffee pecan, s'mores and white chocolate toasted coconut cookies, all of which are hand-baked with love and full of sweet, chocolatey goodness. Jasmine fully appreciates the entire sensory experience of chocolate, from the taste to the smell to the texture, and encourages her customers to bask in this appreciation as well.
The cookies are available for pre-order only, 48 hours in advance, and the order form is easily accessible from her Instagram page. Pickup is an option for those who live in her region, and contactless delivery can be made for those across Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, Toronto, Etobicoke, Georgetown and Milton for a small fee. Follow along and order some gourmet cookies to support this wonderful small business owner and the message of joy, love and acceptance that she is spreading.
