Hogtown Vegan, one of Toronto's OG vegan spots, is rebranding their Bloor Street location into a new relaxed bar called Hunny.
Jaclyn Walker and Jillian Krasnicki are best friends and the owners of the popular Hogtown Vegan, and have a passion for animal-welfare, with veganism following suit. Both of them love a good snack, so slinging vegan food was a natural career move.
Both Krasnicki and Walker shared they were running the two locations for a few years, and due to the pandemic, were forced to choose one location to shut down. Since they still have the 1056 Bloor St space now, and with the pandemic hopefully slowing down, they decided to flip the business into a brand new concept to get it back on its feet.
Hunny differs from Hogtown in the sense of pace––they want guests to come for a snack and get stuck there all night on the comfy couches, where as at Hogtown, they need to turn tables fast to feed the line-up of customers. Hunny will be comfort-focused, as is Hogtown, but Hunny will take it a step further and make you feel like you're hanging out at home with a group of friends. Walker and Krasnicki will be creating a safe space for all, with drinks and games to accompany a good time.
"Hunny will be carb-overload. Again, comfort. Think huge bowls of different Mac n' Cheez flavours, including a Carbonara. Panini-pressed grilled cheez, flatbread, lots of homemade vegan seitan-bacon and eggs and plenty of sweet treats too. Expect some Coconut-lemon cake [too]," says Krasnicki.
Since Hunny will be in the original Hogtown Vegan space at 1056 Bloor Street West, they will be changing the familiar green walls of Hogtown's restaurants to primarily pink. Hunny will be open in the evenings only, and for now, they are planning for Thursdays through to Sundays. The duo is hoping to open by Fall 2021, landing somewhere in October.
