After working together over the past year, Fugo Desserts and Makan decided to merge recently, resulting in the relocation of Fugo Desserts from their original shop on 205 Dundas Street West to just down the street inside of Makan located at 265 Queen Street West.
The decision comes after Fugo's lease expired and the two companies figured this would be a great opportunity for them to work together, but also save on additional costs due to the pandemic.
If you're craving savoury bao and sweet mini donuts, this new weekly delivery pop-up between Makan and Fugo Desserts is worth checking out.
Via Makan's website, the teams have made it possible to pre-order for weekend deliveries available all across the GTA of their "Makan at Home" offerings, even providing weekly specials, which they post to their Instagram earlier in the week. Here you can find items like DIY bao kits and vac-sealed, pre-cooked meat packs that you can prepare yourself at home, as well as mini donuts, tiramisu and ice cream provided by Fugo Desserts.
Fugo Desserts is known for its sweets, ranging from creative mini donuts, ice cream, roasted marshmallow drinks and tiramisu. They're most recognized for their Cookie Monster ice cream cone, which comes with their vibrant blue cookie monster ice cream and Mini Chips Ahoy in an Oreo dipped cone. They've also got quite the selection of mini donuts, which includes flavours like Lemon Meringue which has a creamy lemon filling and toasted meringue on top, as well as their Campfire S’mores donut which is a chocolate dip donut, dusted in graham crackers and topped with a toasted marshmallow.
Makan is a restaurant concept that blends the cuisines of Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and Korea to create dishes with familiar flavours but with a unique twist. They regard themselves as "the future of fast Asian cuisine" and show that through their menu, which focuses on baos and bowls. This includes their different varieties of bao buns like the Notorious P.I.G. bao, which is braised pork belly with pickled vegetables, sweet peanut crumble and their signature braise sauce, sandwiched between two slices of thick and fluffy bao buns. Amongst their various and customizable bowl options, you can find the Satay Beef on Rice which comes with generous portions of Malaysian satay beef on a bed of fragrant white rice, a poached egg and topped with a sprinkle of sweet peanut crumble.
Aside from their DIY and ready to heat up kits available through their "Makan at Home" experience, Makan's "Nasi Lemak Platters" have been an incredibly popular delivery option, especially paired with desserts from Fugo. This kit varies depending on size but can include fragrant coconut rice, ikan bilis (anchovy), roasted peanuts, egg, freshly sliced cucumber, their signature sambal paste and various protein options. Along with your order, you can also easily add on sweets from Fugo Desserts.
If you prefer pick-up instead of delivery, you can arrange that through pre-ordering on their website as well, for any day of the week. This is especially beneficial since certain items like their Kimchi Tater Tots are only available for in-store pick-up.
Be sure to check out this new pop-up by ordering online for delivery, or drop by in person from Sunday to Thursday from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. at 265 Queen Street West to enjoy all Makan and Fugo Desserts has to offer.
