If you're not familiar with them already, The Communist's Daughter and Three Speed Bar are Torontonian drinking staples; cozy exposed-brick interiors, high-quality drinks, and warm and friendly service are the marks of both bars. Co-owners Paul Emery, Jud and Daniel have worked magic yet again, and 222 Bar will continue this legacy of excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere (but with a bit of 1980s twist).
222 Bar has taken over the old Grow Op location on the corner of Ossington and Dundas St. West (located at 222 Ossington). The interiors have been completely gutted to transform the space into a 1980s hotel lobby theme, complete with a shuffleboard, booth seating, candlelit tables and a warm-orange glow. It's a romantic, intimate space that perfectly fits the Ossington community.
222 had their soft opening in December but were only open for about a week before Christmas and the lockdown that followed. Now they are fully operational and open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week. Currently, they are still in the early development stages of a menu, as there is a full-service kitchen at 222 Ossington, and they are hoping by summer, when their back patio is open and swinging, that they'll launch some food offerings. You can, on Fridays only, pop in for oysters when Jane from Three Speed features at 222 for oyster shucking (and $8 glasses of wine for oyster night).
If you're not a fan of wine, their house cocktails are a force to be reckoned with. The Emerald of Ossington features gin, Chartreuse, and St Germain; their New York Sour has bourbon, egg whites and red wine, and the Bautista features Brugal amber rum, bitters, lemon and is topped with cider. They have a full beer and liquor menu as well.
Check out 222 Bar at 222 Ossington if you're looking for a new watering hole.
