Embrace the macabre with this "creepy-as-hell" Halloween pop-up bar

Let's face it — an adults-only haunted house sounds pretty great. Add alcohol and loud music to that equation and you've got the recipe for a great time. That is basically what Black Lagoon is bringing to the city of Toronto.

The Halloween-themed pop-up bar will run throughout October, providing the people of Toronto with a place where it's spooky season for the entire month. It will feature a fully decked-out interior with coffins, skeletons, mummies, fog, a dimly-lit ambiance and everything in between. Complementing the eerie setting is an equally-creepy drink menu, with names like The Bloodlust, The Darkness and Blood Rave.

Black Lagoon is housed at 875 Bloor St. W. The bar will remain open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., beyond which the only zombies you might encounter are the pub crawlers making their way home after a night of heavy drinking.

The pop-up is described as an "immersive, creepy-as-hell experience that pays homage to the macabre and throws in a splash of goth and metal for good measure."

While costumes are not mandatory, they are highly recommended. After all, you don't want to be in a room full of adult scene kids and be the one freak in a flannel shirt. As an added bonus, all cover fees are waived off if you enter wearing a costume.

Black Lagoon is the brainchild of Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage — two veterans of the hospitality industry. With decades of experience between them, the two brought their first Halloween pop-up to the people of New Orleans in 2019.

After its immense success, the duo decided that the pop-up needed to be "bigger, creepier and louder than ever." Now they can be found in nine cities across Canada and the United States.

The pop-up is a celebration of all things goth, metal and Halloween. All like-minded people are invited to come join the month-long spooky festivities. Even if you do not check any of the aforementioned categories, you still might want to check it out and feel what it is like to get a drink while seated in the middle of a graveyard of the living dead.

Black Lagoon's dark dungeons of drink are open to being entered from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31 at 875 Bloor St. W. More details about the place can be found on its website and Instagram page.
