In a city that's home to several delicious falafel joints, Tut's Egyptian Street Food is bringing something slightly different to downtown Toronto and we are here for it.
The fast-casual King West restaurant opened up at the beginning of the month with a mission to showcase the flavours and authenticity of street food dishes from Cairo, the Egyptian capital. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with brightly-coloured wall decor that highlights Egyptian-style hieroglyphs and symbols, providing a modern interpretation that sets the restaurant's cultural scene. Based upon late-night eats inspired by their country of origin, their menu focuses mainly on sandwiches in a distinct style that has remained relatively untapped thus far in Toronto.
Infused with the Middle East's rich spices and piled onto squishy white buns that are baked fresh every few hours, the fillings and toppings make for deliciously flavourful handheld sandwiches. Guests can choose from traditional-style meats like chicken and beef adorned with pickled veg, fresh herbs and various garlic-infused sauces. Vegetarians can opt for the fried cauliflower or falafel sandwiches, both served with garlic tomatoes and doused with creamy tahini sauce. Each generously filled but modestly-sized sandwich is a steal at $3.99, but even better are the Tut's combos, which allow for mixing and matching the various options with a side of crispy golden fries and a drink. Don't forget to order an extra dose of their wildly flavourful garlic sauce to go with your meal!
If you're looking for a quick snack or meal that is laid back while being unique, tasty and super satisfying, Tut's is most definitely a spot to visit. They're open daily (and late on weekends), so stop by for a sandwich (or four) and your tastebuds will thank you.
