Leaside neighbourhood's newest comfort food joint, Egg Bird, is serving up brisket burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, shakes and frozen custard.
Egg Bird is the latest venture of Indo-Canadian acclaimed chef Hemant Bhagwani. Unlike Bhagwani's modern Indian restaurants, Egg Bird is a take on the traditional neighbourhood brunch post, while showcasing globally inspired food in a chef-driven menu.
Egg Bird shares the space with fried chicken shop, Chubbs, created by chef Kevin Diaz. Both concepts use locally and sustainably sourced ingredients from Ontario farms.
Burgers are made using 100% beef brisket from Cumbrae's that is ground fresh daily. All burgers are served on a Martin's Potato Roll and dressed with all of the fixings, including cheddar cheese, signature sauce, lettuce, pickles and onions. It wouldn't be a Bhagwani burger without an egg. Combining his two favourites things, all of Eggbird's burgers, except for the Original, are topped with Burnbrae Farm's cage-free eggs, cooked over medium.
Belgian frites are hand-cut and triple fried for optimal crispiness. You can also get their JD Fries, loaded with BBQ sauce, shoestring onions, chillies, Jack Daniel's maple glaze and bacon 3-ways: bits, crumble and bacon mayo!
The menu also features a vegan-friendly crispy cauliflower burger doused with a sweet and spicy sauce and topped with a spicy slaw.
As for Chubbs, Chef Diaz knocks fried chicken sandwiches out of the park with his innovative recipes. All chicken sandwiches are 100% Halal and made using free-range, grain-fed chicken raised without antibiotics or hormones. From Jamaican jerk to Bombay Masala, Chubbs fried chicken sandwiches draws influence from all corners of the globe.
"Fried chicken is one of those foods that everyone loves and every culture has their own take on it. We have an ambitious goal of having the best fried chicken in Toronto," says Diaz.
To top it off, Egg Bird is also serving decadent milkshakes, including Strawberry topped with a strawberry mousse cake square, Vanilla Coconut, Blackberry Cheesecake, Banana Milk Chocolate and Black & White.
A burger will run you $10 a pop, whereas fried chicken sandwiches are $12.
Egg Bird is located at 1595 Bayview Avenue and is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with patio dine-in and takeout and delivery through Uber Eats.
