Drip Creamery launches 'season two' of their ice cream today

The popular ice cream pop-up Drip Creamery is back for season two.

After operating out of Milky's coffee shop last summer and taking a break during the colder months, the return of this now online pop-up has been long awaited.

With flavours set to rotate every month, the current ice cream line-up for June, which launches today at noon, includes Cookie Butter made with Biscoff cookies, Midnight Snack made from vanilla buttermilk ice cream and fudge brownie cookies and the return of two signature flavours, SweetMei––named after the owner's girlfriend––made with a pandan base and Hainanese Kaya jam drizzled generously within and Clouds Over London, which is an earl grey ice cream with a blueberry ripple.

Behind every unique flavour is a story, a distinct reason for its creation and flavour combination.

"We're not just selling you ice cream, it's also the experience of having something special and high quality," says owner Jordan Gill. "With every flavour comes an experience, whether it brings you back to when you were a kid or when you visited that fancy restaurant in France."

Most ice cream flavours offered on the menu are inspired by Gil's longtime passion for food and love for global travel.

"From a very young age I've just always loved food and being in the kitchen around my mom, whether I was helping prepare dinner or just watching her cook and seeing how she did things," said Gill. "I remember opening my Easy Bake Oven on Christmas morning when I was six years old, jumping for joy because I genuinely loved food so much and I could bake on my own. I was pumping out those yellow cakes so fast it was crazy."

From Easy Bake Ovens to Michelin Star restaurants, Gill has grown his palette to look out for combinations of flavours and textures intriguing to him from his travels, which ultimately motivated him to create something inspiring in the world of food and hopes to have these same bursts of flavours come through in the ice cream he's creating.

"From dining in Michelin restaurants in Singapore to street food in South Korea. I want you to feel how it made me feel tasting those flavours for the first time or maybe you'll create your own story tasting Drip."

Beyond just the flavours offered, Gill even aims to design his branding in a specific way through modern pint designs and using dark, bold shades you wouldn't typically associate with ice cream brands, to put an emphasis on how Drip Creamery aims to be different and step out of the box.

SweetMei is the must-try flavour on the menu at the moment. The fan-favourite from last summer has a difference in the texture and flavour of the ice cream is shown through it's popularity.

"Although you can find pandan flavoured ice cream all around Toronto, I can say with my chest it's not like Drips. One thing you'll notice right away is that it's not green because I don't use any pandan extracts or food colouring," said Gill.

In fact, the SweetMei is made using fresh pandan leaves––find copious layers of sweet caramel coloured Hainanese Kaya within, a smooth and rich coconut spread made by Gill, that really solidifies this flavour as one of the best pandan pints you can take home in the city.

Other flavours to look forward to this year include Mandarin Sake, Pie, Banana Creme and Peaches––since flavours are set to rotate every month, you'll want to stay tuned to Drip Creamery's Instagram so that you don't miss out on news of their weekly drops.

Drip is only available through delivery at the moment, but with a big radius––the online shop opens every Wednesday at 12 p.m. with a two pint minimum order. Deliveries for Thursday are to Mississauga, Brampton and Vaughan, Toronto gets deliveries on Friday and ice cream lovers from Richmond Hill, Markham, Pickering and Ajax will get their fix on Saturday.
