In this week's edition of "Toronto restaurants we've missed", another spot has joined many of the city's favourites in opening back up for takeout. Although they're later than some to the game, Dreyfus has finally blessed Torontonians with a new takeout menu for their dine-at-home pleasure.
The petit French bistro, helmed by Joe Beef Alum Zach Kolomeir, boasts a cozy, relaxed atmosphere alongside simple Quebecois cuisine and a hefty list of natural wines. They have been closed since mid-March, initially opting out of the pivot to takeout-only, but have now adjusted their strategy according to the current situation and worked hard to design a delicious menu that is fit for takeaway dining.
The menu is Israeli-inspired, featuring the best of Ontario's seasonal produce showcased through shareable, vegetable-forward plates and rich, flavourful meat dishes. This week's selection includes a variety of charcoal-grilled Ontario vegetables with preserved lemon, field-grown green salad, baba ghanoush dip, crispy chicken schnitzel and tahini-smothered falafels and kebabs.
If the beautifully vibrant menu isn't convincing enough, they are also donating 100% of this week's schnitzel proceeds to The Stop Community Food Centre and Sistering Drop-In, two local organizations that offer food security and a range of support initiatives for low-income communities, including previously homeless women and trans folks. The restaurant acknowledged on their Instagram page that tangible change starts with helping their community, and they have aimed to do so in a thoughtful and intentional way this week. Needless to say, this is an excellent time to support both a wonderful restaurant and some important causes, so if you have the means to, make sure to grab a meal from Dreyfus this weekend!
Currently, their offerings are available Thursday through Saturday from 5-8 p.m. and can only be ordered through their website, with the menu changing slightly on each of the three days. Wine, of course, can be picked up alongside orders when guests arrive at the restaurant in-person. Enjoy!
