Adding to their growing list of 550 global locations, Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants has announced the opening of their first Toronto store this summer. Torontonians will finally get a taste of Dickey’s “Legit. Texas. Barbecue.™” founded in Dallas in 1941.
“Dickey’s Barbecue Pit,” as it was called back then, began as a family operation that served only beef brisket, pit hams, barbecue beans, potato chips, beer, bottled milk, and sodas. Today, Dickey’s Restaurants can be found across 44 states in the U.S. and several other countries, including Singapore, Japan, Pakistan, and now, Canada.
“It’s always exciting to debut our Legit. Texas. Barbecue.™ in a new community, but it’s particularly exciting when our brand crosses borders,” writes CEO Laura Rea Dickey. “We look forward to introducing our tastes of Texas to Toronto and more Canadians across the country.”
Franchised by Anand Desai and Sharmistha Ghosh, Toronto’s first Dickey’s will bring their signature Texas-style barbecued meats, which will all be smoked onsite in a hickory wood burning pit.
With the belief that there’s “no shortcut to true barbecue,” Dickey's will be serving their classic menu with eight types of meat, including brisket, pulled pork, ribs, wings and other things, all with a side of their famous sauces and rubs.
Their offerings have come a long way from the limited menu of their humble Dallas beginnings. At Dickey’s Toronto, you can expect today’s loaded selection of barbecued favourites, from comforting barbecue sandwiches and mac ’n cheeses to easy combo plates and “meats by the pound.”
There’s also a dedicated Ribs & Wings section for those looking to dive in hands-first.
For sides, Dickey’s has just about covered it all with their bakers, sides, and “’Cue Creations,” including Jalapeño Beans, Onion Tanglers, Fried Okra, Brisket Mac Stack, Chicken Spinach and Cheese, Loaded Potatoes, and more.
The most appealing of all, however, is their menu of “Packs” that can serve anywhere from 2 to 12 people in one order.
Dickey’s hasn’t yet revealed the address of their first official Toronto store, but you can expect to hear about it soon as they ready their opening this summer.
They’ve also announced they’ll be working with Ghost Kitchen Brands to offer their barbecue line-up through the virtual food court at 1993 Lawrence Avenue East. Keep an eye on all updates through Dickey’s Instagram and get a head start on your first order by viewing the menu on their website.
