Chef Nuit Regular of the wildly popular Thai restaurant Pai is lifting all our epicurean spirits with her new pop-up, By Chef Nuit.
Unlike the Regular's other traditional Thai eateries, the new pop-up is bringing Thai flavours to Canadian comfort food favourites. Bred out of quarantine experiments from their home kitchen, Jeff Regular, Chef Nuit's husband, felt that her creative Thai fusion dishes were meant to be shared and thus, her culinary playground pop-up was born.
By Chef Nuit will be taking over the Regular's brick and mortar restaurant Kiin, which has remained closed since the beginning of the pandemic.
The menu features Thai-inspired comfort food favourites such as the Chicken Satay Poutine, Laap and Pad Thai wings. Also on offer is the Pad Gra Pow Burger -- a Pad Gra Pow patty on a sesame bun topped with aged cheddar, Thai fried egg, housemade Sriracha mayo and fried holy basil, served with a side of tom yum fries at an extra cost.
For a vegetarian option, you can substitute the beef or pork patty for a portobello mushroom burger.
Another notable dish is the Massaman Beef Sandwich, served on a soft roll and stacked with braised beef, Massaman curry sauce, smoked provolone, pickled cucumber, watermelon radish, arugula sprouts, jalapeño rings and crispy shallots.
Chef Nuit pays homage to the French-Canadian classic with her Panang poutine served with braised beef, Panang curry sauce, cheese curds, aromatic lime leaves, and basil sprouts and red chillies for an extra kick.
For a limited time, Chef Nuit is also bringing back her Pad See Ew, available with chicken or shrimp stir-fried with her signature sauce, gai lan (Chinese broccoli) and fried eggs.
If you're in the mood for something light and fresh, the Yum Yai salad features iceberg lettuce, watermelon radish, hard-boiled egg, crispy green peas, cherry tomatoes and sunflower seeds tossed in a garlic lime dressing. Add grilled portobello mushrooms, grilled shrimp or AAA Denver steak to your Yum Yai salad to make it a full meal.
By Chef Nuit is open only for takeout and delivery through Uber Eats. Orders can be placed in-person over the phone or online via Uber Eats. There is also minimal curbside patio seating for those who would like to sit down and enjoy their meals, weather permitting.
By Chef Nuit pop-up is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. at 326 Adelaide Street West.
