The buzz around cannabis in Toronto restaurants

Now that cannabis edibles have been legalized, the framework has been laid for the possibility of THC-infused dishes coming to a restaurant near you. The ability to order a sativa prime rib or indica chocolate lave cake still faces a lot of hurdles and red tape but some eateries -- both established and in concept -- are saying it’s not a matter of if but when it will become a reality.

Restaurants across the city are also creating “cannabis consumption areas” where patrons can enjoy their meal alongside their favourite cannabis strain. It appears as though these areas will be separate from the dining room and bar areas to both create a different vibe as well as not interfere with customers who don’t wish to imbibe or be surrounded by the smell. Since indoor smoking of any kind is against the law, these consumption areas will have to take up real estate on the patio and may only be a seasonal offering.

Cannabis-infused alcoholic cocktails face even more red tape but non-alcoholic ones could be coming to Toronto bars soon.

There are some options if you’re interested in exploring infused food in the meantime. There are a few chefs and catering companies across the city that offer either private dining experiences or cooking classes to teach you how you can create your own menu. Get in touch with The Green Chef to host an infused dinner party or The Cannabis Cooking Company to learn about how you can incorporate cannabinoids at home.

These are interesting times and we are excited to see what chefs will do with the ability to use these new ingredients.
