Bubble tea giant making its way to Corktown

Updated: almost 5 years ago

Corktown lookout! Bubble tea giant Chatime is taking over the old Second Cup at the corner of King and Jarvis. This location will be Chatime's 38th location in Toronto but the first between Yonge and the DVP.

Prior to 2011, bubble tea was only found in Chinatown and the surrounding area; however, the iconic Taiwanese brand has grown exponentially, operating in more than 1000 locations in over 26 countries -- Chatime has developed into a household name. Chatime continues to innovate with its recipes, store design and ingredients, but it is clear that their focus over these last 9 years has been growth. They are quickly becoming the Starbucks of Bubble Tea, available on every corner and at all hours of the day, as many locations stay open until midnight.

Chatime

Chatime translates to “Sunrise Tea” which aligns perfectly with their vision of “Anywhere there is sunrise, there will be Chatime". Chatime has made this Taiwanese drink approachable, fun and maintained its ability to be customized. Bubble tea is comprised of teas, milk, sugars and a variety of toppings (tapioca pearls). Bubble tea or boba fanatics have become an explosive sub-community of tea drinkers that represent fragments of cultures and traditions in one beverage.

There is no confirmed opening date yet, but Corktown will have their prayers answered as Chatime finally migrates to the east end.
