Beloved neighbourhood spot for pizza and smash burgers on Spadina is relocating

After spending the last three and a half years operating out of a humble little space in downtown Chinatown, a neighbourhood favourite, Big Trouble Pizza is saying goodbye, but not for long.

Their last day open being this past Tuesday on August 10––for one final infamous 'Burger Tuesday' which had a massive turnout and completely sold out––the pizzeria is set to relocate to a new spot at 191 Geary Avenue later this fall.

"Geary Avenue is a great street that has some amazing established businesses we are friends with and it is only continuing to grow," says co-owner Mikey Pamaputera. "We look forward to contributing to the neighbourhood with our pizza, burgers as well as other creative food projects we’ve been wanting to share."

Here, they'll join a handful of thriving independent restaurants in the largely industrial area like Blood Brothers Brewery, Parallel, Famiglia Baldassarre, North of Brooklyn Pizzeria and the newly opened Good Behaviour Ice Cream.

Originally captivating eyes, and later stomaches, with their creative pizza combinations like Butter Jam Jam––which comes with a swirl of organic raspberry jam, butter cream, mozzarella, a drizzle of balsamic reduction and topped with lemon zest shavings––the pizzeria is also known for collaborating with other local chefs for signature za's, like most recently, the return of their collaboration with Chef Devan who made a Butter Paneer pizza.

Despite launching with a focus on pizza, Big Trouble later began doing burger pop-ups on Tuesdays, which gained tremendous popularity within the neighbourhood and beyond.

Although they spent the last three years as an active member of the Chinatown community, co-owner Mikey Pamaputera says it was time to move on.

"It was a great starting space for our pizzeria. We have grown as an independent business and this move to a bigger space allows us to continue our growth, aspirations and ambitions."
