Bar Neon has a new Bread and Wine takeaway counter

Bar Neon's newest takeaway concept, Neon Bread and Wine, is serving freshly baked organic sourdough, organic wines and local craft beer out of a shipping container.

Located on Cosmos Nature Laneway, behind the Bar Neon patio, the small shipping container, previously used for storage, has been totally converted to a small kitchen and takeout counter, fully equipped with fridges, a wood stove, a service window and an HVAC unit.

You can get everything here for takeout from their popular pita and dips, including tzatziki, muhammara and taramasalata, freshly shucked oysters, chicken souvlaki, lamb kofta, feta fries and calamari.

Neon Bread and Wine also offers pantry items such as their marinated olives, pickled asparagus, pickled garlic scapes, organic olive oil and Aegean Fleur de Sel, frozen Neon burger patties and frozen souvlaki skewers.

There is quite the selection of natural, organic wines from Greece and several from the Niagara region. As for beers, you can expect tallboys from Collective Arts and Woodhouse, to name a few.

Bar Neon has partnered with Ambassador. Users can place their orders ahead of time for pick up. The takeout counter also doubles as a pick up window for Uber and DoorDash orders.

In the event of another lockdown, manager Corey Patey has been trying to figure out a way to diversify their operations and generate steady revenue for the bar. With the new kitchen and takeout counter, "we're able to operate the kitchen inside and takeout here... [and] sell everything we normally do," says Patey.

Neon Bread and Wine is open Wednesday to Sunday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., though they're looking to open seven days a week as patio season comes to a close.
