After six years of service, one of Toronto’s favourite brunch restaurants, Baddies, announced they’ll permanently close their doors on March 30, 2022.
With beautifully delicate food and plating, Baddies made a name for themselves as one of the most photogenic brunch spots in the city and the creator of Toronto’s favourite mini doughnuts chain, COPS.
When they opened in 2016, Baddies became quickly known for taking brunch favourites and making them their own with a high level of artistry, like their rotating menu of French Toast creations featuring carefully layered fruits, airy whipped ricotta and lovely edible flowers.
Even something as regularly seen on menus as avocado toast was taken to the next level at Baddies, thanks to their innovative spreads like yellow zucchini, goat cheese and honey.
Unfortunately, as owner Alex White announced on Instagram, the pandemic has taken its toll on Baddies, and they’ll be serving their last meals on March 30, 2022.
“Baddies has been the ride of a lifetime, I’ve met amazing regulars that have become friends, unbelievable staff that played the huge part of making Baddies what it was and what it is,” wrote White.
Having moved here from Australia, White hoped to bring his home’s coffee-and-breakfast culture to Toronto with the opening of Baddies. It also carried personal meanings for White and his father.
“Baddies started shortly after the passing of my Dad and it paid homage to him and a dream that we shared together. I know he’d be proud of this amazing place and what we achieved over the past six years,” he writes.
Make sure to take home a piece of Baddies history before their final day by purchasing one of their limited-edition “You Beauty” mugs for pickup on their website.
After Baddies officially shutters their doors, the team will be switching their focus to other projects in the pipeline. Meanwhile, they’ll still be running COPS doughnuts in the evenings out of the location until further notice.
Until March 30, you can still try and snag a walk-in table and enjoy Baddies’ beautiful brunch dishes one final time. They’re located on 679 Lansdowne Avenue and will be open every day until their last, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
