Famed Toronto chef Nuit Regular and actor Harry Shum Jr. will be whipping up some Pad Thai together on Instagram tonight.
Regular, an established chef at popular Toronto spots Pai and Kiin, will be joined by Shum for a virtual cooking session and to talk about his new film.
The newly released movie ‘All My Life’ stars Shum playing Solomon Chau, a George Brown College alum and Toronto chef who passed away from liver cancer in 2015. The film details the real-life love story between Sol and his wife Jenn Carter.
The film delegates Chau and Carter’s journey as they meet, fall in love, move-in together, get engaged, and plan their wedding.
After being diagnosed with cancer and learning they only had a few months left together, Chau and Carter crowdfunded over $50,000 to throw a dream wedding at Casa Loma––it is a tale of optimism in the face of adversity, and a story many resonated with.
While the film’s principal photography took place in the US rather than Toronto, its ties to the city are undoubted.
Regular and Shum’s IG live is expected to reconnect the story of Chau and Carter to the Toronto residents and community.
Regular’s love story is also one well-known by Toronto patrons, as it is often seen decorating the walls at her and her husband Jeff’s landmark spot, Pai.
Jeff met Nuit while backpacking in Thailand, having shared an elephant ride with her. After discovering Nuit’s impeccable cooking prowess, they opened their own restaurant in the town of Pai and eventually moved to Canada.
The live cooking session will take place on Regular’s Instagram tonight at 7 p.m. Viewers will also have a chance to win a copy of her latest cookbook and a free code to watch Shum’s new film.
