A new burger joint is gracing Toronto's east end with charred patties, beachside vibes and canned cocktails. GG's Burgers has officially opened in Woodbine Beach and is the first of three anticipated openings by Scale Hospitality that will work to revitalize the area.
GG's Burgers is the latest venture by one of Toronto's largest hospitality groups, Scale Hospitality, run by restaurateur Hanif Harji and Terry Tsianos, who are responsible for Toronto restaurants such as Lapinou, Shook, Byblos, Patria, The Wheatsheaf Tavern and FIGO.
As all previous projects are located in and around the King West area of Toronto, GG's marks the group's first foray into The Beaches neighbourhood. The project is part of a larger plan to transform the boardwalk at Woodbine Beach, Toronto's largest beach, alongside Lake Ontario.
The concept for the beachside burger joint is psychedelic 70s, with a retro groovy vibe injected into the 350 square foot restaurant. The space is outfitted with five tables for dining inside (when restrictions lift) and 50 tables outside for summer lake-side al fresco dining.
There has been no shortage of new burger joints and pop-ups in the city this past year, as the pandemic has emphasized a return to comfort food and no-frills cooking, which isn't lost on experienced industry veteran Hanif Harji.
"Everyone has that favourite burger joint that transports them to a simpler time, and is reminiscent of days spent in the sun, near the water," said Hanif Harji. "GG's is pulling from those memories, using the highest quality ingredients and nostalgic recipes to create a super-cool beachside joint that welcomes everyone. We're excited to share GG's, and unveil its sister venues this summer when we can hopefully all get back to the beach."
Expect all of this years' greatest hits to find their way onto the menu, from smash burgers, crispy chicken and Nashville hot chicken. They'll also be hot dogs, fries, onion rings, daily milkshakes, beer, canned cocktails and more. Of course, the featured item on the menu is their signature smash burger, comprised of a charred patty, GG's special sauce, crispy fresh vegetables, and sandwiched between two sesame buns.
GG's Burgers officially opened on April 23 and will be open daily for takeout and delivery from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. Find them at 1681 Lake Shore Blvd E. for pickup or order for delivery through their website, Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes, DoorDash and Ritual.
