Another day, another time for Toronto's food scene to shine--sort of.
In the first-ever report released by Hotels.com, one of the city's hotels listed in the top ten global list of most extravagant experiences, thanks to one particular room service order.
The report, which was released on June 6, points to the 24" hot dog served at the Toronto Marriott City Centre as one of the most extravagant room service experiences in the world. Of course, it's the very hotel that looks onto live Toronto Blue Jays games, so ballpark experiences and snacks are obviously on the menu, but the Marriott takes it to the next level thanks to the elevated, crowd-free room service options that join the two-foot hot dog.
"Despite the popularity of food service apps, 75% of hotels surveyed said that room service demand has stayed the same or increased over the past year," the press release said. And, so, each destination is getting more creative in terms of offerings.
The Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel joins Montreal's Hotel Monville, which is the first of its kind in Canada to offer robot-operated room service, Prince Edward County's Merrill House, which arranges a picnic in the countryside, and several other hotels across the globe.
“Room service holds a special place in the hearts of hotel guests,” said Melanie Fish, a spokesperson for Hotels.com, in a press release. “Whether it's a treat-yourself moment or a must-have after a long day of sightseeing."
Over half (52%) of the Hotels.com partners included in the study "plan to keep offerings the same or expand room service menus and hours in the next year to meet the growing demand," the press release said.
The survey was conducted online from April 5-23, 2023, and included 473 hotels in the U.S., U.K., France, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, amongst hotels currently offering in-room dining.
