A new grocery delivery service in Scarborough swears that you can receive your order of fresh groceries in just 15 minutes.
Sumer says they delivers groceries five times faster and charge a fifth of the delivery fees compared to other services in Canada. They have two major areas that they operate within currently––Morningside and Scarborough Town Centre neighbourhood. Their vision is to allow customers to get fresh groceries on demand and experience convenience they've never felt before.
Sumer was started by Frank Chen and Mohammed Wasif, two fourth-year accounting students at the University of Toronto. Wasif and Chen met at an internship working in the same department, soon becoming best friends and realized that they have a lot of synergy and work really well together. Almost in consensus, they brought up the idea of starting a business together. As they both were having trouble getting groceries, they decided to start a grocery delivery business, but one that's different from any other grocery delivery service: a 15-minute operation that only charges a $1.99 delivery fee.
What they both found was that people were wasting a lot of time going to the grocery store, and even more time waiting for their groceries to be delivered––and worst of all––delivery charges can be as high as $10 for some services. Wasif and Chen saw the inconvenience Canadian grocery shoppers faced and they wanted to create a service that not only delivered groceries fast, but also at an affordable price.
The two say that by getting orders quickly, it reduces the extra planning for grocery shopping and gives you fresh ingredients for your meals. Sumer aims to provide the best customer service possible because making customers happy is their first priority. Even better, their products are sourced from local farmers to receive the freshest of groceries while supporting local businesses.
