One of the city’s most popular Thai restaurants will be opening a second restaurant towards the end of the month.
After receiving numerous requests from customers, Chef Mo—owner of East Danforth’s Sala Modern Thai Kitchen—will finally be setting up shop in Mississauga with her new restaurant, Mo Thai. With the help of her husband and business partners, Chef Mo has been documenting the entire process of opening a restaurant through weekly vlogs on YouTube. She has also been able to grow her social media presence by sharing comedic tidbits of her journey on TikTok and Instagram.
“Thai food is my air,” said Chef Mo. “After having spent a few months in Canada, I couldn’t help but crave Thai food from back home.”
After seeing the kind of Thai food that was being sold in Toronto, Chef Mo—a native of Isaan—believed that she could bring a lot more authentic and unique recipes to the table, which is what led her to open Sala Modern Thai Kitchen in 2017. Following the continued success of her restaurant, Chef Mo decided that it was time for more, hence the name Mo Thai.
“It’s time for more. More quality Thai for everybody, starting with Mississauga,” the chef said.
The menu will focus on popular and familiar Thai dishes like Pad See Ew and Pad Thai, as well as Chef Mo’s signature Tom Yum Pad Thai recipe. It will also feature some of Sala Modern's most sought-after items, such as their Pad Ma Khou, that consists of eggplant and minced chicken stir-fried in their homemade sweet and spicy chili sauce.
On the day of their grand opening, which has yet to be announced, the team has confirmed that they’ll be running all the way from Sala Modern Thai Kitchen on the Danforth to Mo Thai while holding a bowl of noodles in their hands. The bowl of noodles symbolizes that the team will literally be bringing more Thai food to Mississauga. You’ll be able to catch a livestream of the event on their Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Mo Thai is slated to open by the end of May at 3085 Hurontario Street in Mississauga.
