Even though Toronto is trying to shake off these cold and windy days, summer is still fast approaching. And with that comes pop-ups happening all over the city. The latest one, Trainwreck Burgers, is a new burger pop-up opening in the Junction.
Trainwreck Burgers is run by a wife and husband duo, Alex Murudumbay and Chris Catchpole. Chris went to culinary school because of his passion for food, and Alex runs the marketing, social media and other areas of the business.
"Our burgers are train-themed because my husband grew up in St. Thomas, the train capital of Canada. And the area we're located in is The Junction! We hope to open our own space or food truck in the future too," says Murudumbay.
The initial menu has some unique burger creations by the team. The Classic Trainwreck is the quintessential burger with common toppings like lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. But they get creative too with items like the Muy Loco, a burger with a kick. It’s topped with spicy queso cheese, tortilla chips, jalapenos and lettuce. They are also launching grilled cheeseburgers and an item called a burger in a bag served in a Doritos bag.
Trainwreck Burgers is located at Cocina de Dona Julia on 1545 Dupont St. They’re only open on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for their soft launch. They are looking to expand those hours soon. You can order through their Instagram or via phone and are only accepting cash or e-transfer for now.
