The verdict is out, finally. In their first official post-pandemic list, Canada’s 100 Best named a total of 22 Toronto restaurants in the long-awaited 2022 rankings.
Last year, the guide opted not to release a ranked list of restaurants. Instead, they put together a compilation of 100 stories that reflect Canada’s resilient culinary scene despite the difficulties of the pandemic.
With restrictions now being lifted in most cities across the country, they felt ready to publish the Canada’s 100 Best list once again, but they’ve added some additional changes to their judging criteria.
“In the past, we have always asked of our judges to vote on the complete dining experience: service, décor, the depth of the cellar – and, above all else, the quality of the food,” they wrote. “This time, to broaden the class of restaurants we recognize, we asked our judges to simply vote for great food wherever they found it. Further, to help even the playing field between those restaurants in cities that were in total lockdown while others were open for business, we told judges that they were free to assess restaurant quality based on takeout.”
Sitting comfortably at the top are some of Toronto’s champions, including Alo, Edulis, and Canoe, plus some newer names threaded throughout the list.
Without further ado, here’s the definitive list of which Toronto restaurants made it to the rankings:
#2 - Alo

Since this list was also skipped last year, this year’s ranking includes those that opened in 2021.
In the end, Osteria Giulia took home the most honours. In addition to being a new restaurant that made it to the 100 Best, they were also given the Best New Restaurant Design award, thanks to the sleek interiors by Guido Constantino Projects Inc.
While her restaurants didn’t make the list, Chef Nuit Regular was given an exemplary Business Leadership award for all her accomplishments to date and her perseverance throughout the pandemic, including opening PAI Uptown for takeout.
Other notable Ontario restaurants that made it to the 100 Best include Restaurant Pearl Morissette (#4), Langdon Hall (#5), and North & Navy (#40).
