The Caesaroni
15 mins Prep Time

On day five of recreating our favorite dishes in Toronto, we’re making the viral Ceasaroni sandwich from Vilda's! Pepperoni pizza and Caesar salad – two pizza parlour classics – are brought together in a sandwich. It tastes exactly how you think it would: rich and tangy, with a familiar taste of, well, pepperoni pizza. This unique combination of comforting flavours and textures makes it a standout sandwich in the city. This recipe includes a classic (but not traditional) version of caesar dressing. You can use either capers or anchovy paste for that iconic umami taste!
Directions
The Caesaroni
4 Steps
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 450°F. Slice the bread in half and spread tomato sauce on both sides. Add mozzarella cheese and pepperoni on one side. Place in the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is melted and the pepperoni is crispy, about 5 minutes.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine grated garlic and capers (or anchovy paste) and mash together with a fork. Add lemon juice, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, mayo, Parmigiano Reggiano, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Add chopped romaine lettuce and combine.
Step 3
Assemble the sandwich by adding the Caesar salad mixture to the bread.
Step 4
Serve immediately and enjoy!
