Several restaurants were victim to a string of break-ins this weekend, resulting in damage to property and robbery.
The break-ins come after a week of similar incidents that saw multiple local businesses in the Dundas West neighbourhood and surrounding area meet the same fate. While the string of break-ins are not officially linked, some businesses have identified one common suspect through security camera footage.
This past weekend, a new group of restaurants fell victim to the break-ins, including spots like Saints Island Pies, Foxley Bistro, Garleek Kitchen and the newly-opened Woofdawg. The restaurants suffered smashed-in doors and windows, which allowed the culprit to get inside.
All the restaurants were able to bounce-back quickly though, replacing the broken glass immediately and opening back up on the same day.
Restaurants involved managed to stay resilient though, thanking their community for the ongoing support and kind words while they deal with their losses.
“Although we are saddened by the break-in, hearing from all of you reminds us of how fortunate we are to be part of such an amazing community,” wrote Garleek Kitchen on Instagram, connecting with the kind individuals in the Parkdale community.
Just last week, the beloved bar Bluebird was broken into and robbed. Community members were quick to put together a GoFundMe page to help them recover from the incident, raising over $9,000 in just a few days.
Nobody has been arrested in relation to the break-ins, and it is still unclear if the recent string of incidents are in any way linked.
