The anticipation of Michelin spending their summer building a Toronto guide has been thrilling, and after months of suspense, we finally have a date and time for the unveiling of Toronto's inaugural Michelin Guide. On Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Evergreen Brick Works, at 6:30 p.m., Michelin will announce which Toronto restaurants will be awarded one, two, or three Michelin Stars, in addition to Bib Gourmands (given to establishments selling great food at reasonable prices), and Green Stars (recognizing sustainable-forward restaurants).
Toronto unabashedly has some of the best restaurants in the world; our diversity creates a remarkable fusion of cuisines, and with Michelin naming Toronto as their first Canadian city for a guide, it's finally getting some of the global recognition it deserves.
The Michelin Guide is possibly the most famous restaurant handbook in the world for gourmands who make eating their travel priority. The history of the Guide is reasonably practical; Michelin wanted to encourage tire sales by French motorists, so they created their three-star rating system. One star is awarded to "a very good restaurant in its category," two stars for "excellent cooking, worth a detour," and three stars for "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey."
“For the first time in its history, the MICHELIN Guide lands in Canada and our inspectors are excited to experience the impressive culinary landscape of Toronto,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the MICHELIN Guides. “This selection for Canada's largest city, and our first in the country, will represent the local flavors, international inspiration, and distinct creativity that makes Toronto’s dining scene world-class.”
